Scientific outreach events
Nicomaque is divided in various projects: one for each event.
Some event are occuring on a regular basis, for instance every year or two. Other events may happen only once.
Sciences en Cour[t]s
Sciences en Cour[t]s is a festival of very short movies that are written, performed and directed by PhD students from Rennes. This idea came tyo the mind of a PhD student in 1999 in La Rochelle. It has been existing in Rennes since 2007 and is organised by Nicomaque.
The short films (5 minutes maximum) are produced by PhD students from research laboratories of Rennes. From fiction to documentary: total freedom is granted regarding both content and form.
The only requirement is outreach: the movies must be shorts, punchy and playful, whatever the scientific topic.
Pint Of Science (Rennes)
The international science outreach festival Pint of Science has settled in Rennes since 2015 with the support of Nicomaque.
This festival aims at facilitating the meeting of researchers with non-scientific audience in order to promote research yet in a relaxed, beer-in-hand, mood.
Forum Doctorants Entreprises (FDE)
The Forum Doctorant·e·s-Entreprises is organized every two year by Nicomaque.
This event aims at promoting skill (scientific, interdisciplinary, ethical...) that PhD students can bring to the workplace, through various workshops and discussions.
With this event, companies can improve their understanding of a former PhD student's skills and how beneficial they can be to a company.
Sciences and Music day
The Sciences and Music day is a scientific outreach event about research and new technologies for music and sounds, through a festive and immersive experience.
Researchers, artists and sound-related companies are invited to share their expertises through conferences and workshops. The event ends with two concerts.
One-time projects
Nicomaque offers support for one-time project organized by PhD students.
Workshop "Ethics in Higher Education and Research"
On July 4th 2026 at the INRIA center of Rennes University, we received Enka Blanchard, doctor in geography and computer science research at CNRS, along with Bernard Friot, economist and labor sociologist.
Enka Blanchard was presenting their work on productivism's improductivity in scientific research whereas Bernard Friot was developing about the civil service status, as a prerequisite for ethical research.
